Corndogorama 2008 Thursday (Day 1)

The corndog man was there. Tall boys were on ice. Stage managers were running a tight ship to get bands playing on time. And there was music. With a post in the same spirit of the festival, Thursday…

My arrival just before Loose Screws produced a PBR and then the night began with some punk jams. The band also seemed to enjoy them.

Next up was The Holland Dutch. It’s hard not to like their cutesy powerpop. The sing-a-long “Uh-Oh” was a nice addition to the evening. It’s also clear that lots of people have a crush on Courtney.

The highlight of the evening was Attractive Eighties Women. Their comedic songs are coupled with their outfits including Laser Tag uniforms and squirt guns full of cheap whiskey for anyone brave enough (a few fans) or stupid enough (me) to step up and take a spray. The show ended with Phoebe dumping mustard and ketchup all over his sweaty body, transferring the ketchard-sweat onto corndogs, and chucking them to people in the crowd. They win.

Tenth To The Moon put on a fair performance. The experimental aspects of their show were interesting and the crowd responded in kind. However, a few songs fell flat and that’s a death sentence on the short set ‘Rama format.

Thee Crucials put on a very energetic show. Their pop-infused punk had the crowd moving – completed with some of the band running through it. It seemed like a blur and their time was up. Unfortunately, scheduling conflicts pulled Ohmpark away from the festival and our time was up too. That’s ok. There’s only about 100 bands to go.

The fest moves fast. We’re running to catch more now. I think I’m gonna get a funnel cake tonight.
