While we wait to see if that TMV Atlanta show actually happens, here's something to keep us busy. This is the first time The Mars Volta have ever done an FM broadcast of their show, so pick this essential one up:
This will be an event to remember; including video filming for upcoming release. FIRE eaters in the parking lot. A large ICE sculpture of the MF DOOM mask for fan photo ops. The upgraded sound system for this event is going to ensure the maximum METAL FACE EXPERIENCE! It is also rumored that there will be models painted to resemble METAL to facilitate fan appreciation giveaways.
Also performing will be MOBONIX and MR. K members of MF DOOM s METAL FACE AKADEMY crew. MOBONIX is gearing up for the release of his long -awaited full length record, THIRD WORLD AMERICA featuring production by Bean One, Danspeak, and MF DOOM.
Also performing will be Budah Tye ( Universal Vibe Squad) Local support acts to be announced. Deejays will be Atlanta's own Apple Jac and underground-wizard Steve Deniro. This event will be hosted by Dres the Beatnik.
Advance tickets are $25. Tickets will be $30.00 day of show. The price of tickets at the door will be discounted by $5 with the donation of a canned good.
A bit pricey, but when I caught him a few years back at Coachella, he was really great live. Here's a vid:
Creative Loafing did a look back piece on the old Echo Lounge that used to have shows in East Atlanta. I got to catch a handful there and it was a really cool venue.
This looks interesting:
My favourite radio station, Album 88, is doing WRASfest on December 14th at Eyedrum. Here is the initial "teaser" line-up:
Cadillac Jones Chopper Clandestined kids with codenames
And Finally, I saw over at It Covers The Hillsides these sweet fan-made music videos for an Arcade Fire song and a new Radiohead song using footage from some old films and I had to post them here because they are super sweet. Watch them:
Smashing Pumpkins have announced more tour dates and will be in Athens, Ga November 7th. Ghostface Killah is doing a college campus tour sponsored by Adult Swim and will be at Georgia Tech October 10th. ...And You Will Know Of From The Trail Of Dead will also be going on an Adult Swim sponsored tour with Dethklok of the series Metalocalypse. There are no dates for that yet and I'm not sure really how a band on a cartoon will play live shows.
Voodoo Festival, which we will be covering in New Orleans, LA at the end of October, has released a schedule.
Cable and Tweedhave a review of the Black Lips, Selmanaires, and Coathangers show in Athens, Ga last week complete with live mp3s from the night. They also have a Do Make Say Think live show up.

We start today with a video of The Smashing Pumpkins comeback show:
I never covered the Pitchfork Fest additions of Mastodon, Junior Boys, Voxtrot, Cadence Weapon, Brightblack Morning Light, The Field, Cool Kids, and William Parker Quartet. Now with the combination of a night with legendary artists performing some of the best albums ever written and two days of the people making the very best albums of the last 2 years, I think musically this is by far the best festival of the year. On top of that, it is only 50 bucks for three days so it is also the greatest bargain of the year. I often have my quips with Pitchfork's opinions but they sure nailed this line-up. Here it is in case you forgot:
Yoko Ono Cat Power and Dirty Delta Blues (w/ members of Dirty Three, the Delta 72, and Blues Explosion) Clipse Mastodon Iron and Wine Battles Grizzly Bear Voxtrot Califone The Twilight Sad Girl Talk Dan Deacon Oxford Collapse Professor Murder Fujiya & Miyagi Beach House William Parker Quartet Ken Vandermark's Powerhouse Sound

Anybody you don't recognize on that list, you should look into immediately. More info on Pitchfork Fest here. We will be there and you should too.

A quarter of 2007 is over and it was a lot of fun. So far, 2007 is turning out to be a great year in music delivering stellar albums, great shows, and an unprecedented amount of good American music festivals shaping up. I've noticed some interesting trends. For instance, In 2005 it was looking like Arcade Fire and Bloc Party we're going to ascend to greatness and that Modest Mouse had lost everything good about it. One respective album from each band later, Arcade Fire and Bloc Party don't feel so much better than the rest of the pack(although that could easily change) and I can't think of a bigger, better, more important American band in the last 13 years than Modest Mouse.
Sleodid a review of one of the moe. shows in Atlanta. I did a write-up on the Producer Battles at Apache Cafe's World Famous Mic Club. Biggie C got some shots at the Beach House and Birds Of Avalon show:

Everybody is going crazy about the new Arcade Fire album. After a few good listens, I like it, but I'm not willing to crown them yet. I think if you compare it to the best albums to come out this year, it just doesn't hold up. It's definetly worth checking out though. Here's a track in case you haven't heard it yet(doubtful): Intervention
For you hip-hop heads, here's a track from the forth coming Hieroglyphics crew Souls Of Mischief member A-Plus: Patna Please

This Portland 3-piece's Friend And Foe is quickly becoming one of my favourites of the year. Describing this band is difficult for me, a little Clouds Taste Metallic era Flaming Lips, maybe a touch of old school Modest Mouse, maybe a touch of Morphine. I don't know. Give these tracks a listen, and if you like, go get the album because every song on this thing is great.
Explosions In The Sky Their new album, All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone, is a great example of a band that just does their thing, and gets better and better. Many may think that this album sounds very much like most of their others, and that's somewhat true, but some bands just do what they do masterfully, and that's all they need to do. Sometimes a band just doesn't have to head off into another direction (Modest Mouse comes to mind). Give a listen to a great band in their prime:
Another great post-rock album i've been listening to is DMST's You, You're a History In Rust. Part of the Broken Social Scene extended family, these guys are really awesome. Where the new Explosions In The Sky record works to perfect an already "classic" style of post-rock, this album takes alot more liberties and avoids any derivative labels. Enjoy:
I knew when I did my top 50 List of 2006, that i would miss some albums that deserved to be on it because I had only a limited amount of time and resources. He Poos Clouds is the first one. Final Fantasy (aka Owen Pallett) is a violinist/vocalist who played with Arcade Fire on tour and even did some of the string arrangements on their new album, Neon Bible. This second full album as Final Fantasy is just simply phenonemal. You really need to get this:
Final Fantasy Tranzac Toronto, ON February 23, 2007

Audio notes: Levels slightly exceeded levels part way through, they were adjusted on the fly (sample shows this) The clicks you hear is the artist's foot hitting his pedals. The vocals are somewhat low in the mix, but that's how they were meant to be. The artists requested such during the show. Tracks with question marks are new songs. Titles are based on a blurry setlist photo.
