Deerhunter is opening for a handful of Nine Inch Nails dates including the Atlanta show on August 13th at the Gwinnett Center Arena. That should be a pretty sweet show. Also, it appears that Deerhunter has found a replacement for Colin Mee.

Boris will be at The Earl on July 5th.

Yo La Tengo is scoring a movie for Super Bad director Greg Mottola.

Roger Waters‘ flying pig took off during his performance and never came back. The remains of the pig were found later this week.

Dr. Dog has a new album coming out July 22nd.

Shearwater will be at The Earl on June 13th.

Wolf Parade will be at The Variety Playhouse on July 28th.

Tonight In The A: Cloud Cult

Ok, I wasn’t feeling the new Cloud Cult material I had listened to casually on the Internet or at SXSW, but I just got finished listening to the new album, Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes), and it is pretty damn good. So I retract any negative statements I made about it (this is one reason I’m not the biggest fan of early leaks). Not only are these guys a great band, but they are big time environmentalists riding a bio-diesel bus and putting out their releases on their label that uses recycled materials. When I caught them at SXSW they had a painter on stage creating art while they were performing. Tonight they will be at Smith’s Old Bar, so I recommend checking them out:

SXSW 2008 Day 3: Friday

I started out my Friday trying to catch Bon Iver again because my camera ran out of batteries the night before right after they started and I wanted to get some videos, but I arrived at Emo’s too late to get anywhere near the front, so i just enjoyed some more of their stuff and moved on to the next venue. I caught the end of another Kaki King set, wich was cool because I missed the very end of the set i caught Wednesday night.

After that it was time to catch Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. One of the guitarists had broken his amp, so they played as a 3 piece instead, and it really sounded to me like something was missing, so I left after a few songs.

After getting a great steak and brie sandwich at some weird biker bar, I went to see Evangelicals again. It was hard to hear the vocals in the particular spot I was in the night before, plus I really love this album, so I was very happy to catch them do another stunning show. That is another cool thing about this festival; If I want to see a band I love multiple times, it is no problem. Here is some live videos:

Ohmpark’s Top 50 Best Albums Of 2007

2007 was an incredible year of music and there were so many albums I really liked that didn’t make this list. I noticed that most of the lists I pay attention to were very similar to one another this year as opposed to last year. Also, I’ve found myself in more of a disagreeance with those lists than last year. If there is any theme to be taken out of this list, I think it’s that I feel like too many great albums were underrated by the blogosphere elites, and that they were way in love with some albums I think are overrated. This list represents my personal assertions more so than the rest of the Ohmpark crew, but I worked hard to get every one’s opinions and influences in this thing. Feel free to comment on how much you hate or love it. I feel like every album on this is an essential one from last year, so go listen to some new music:

Friday Night Free-Style

So the big local fiasco that happened last week that we hadn’t talked bout yet was the MF Doom show. Apparently MF Doom came out way late in the morning, lip-synced to 20 minutes of a CD, and a bunch of people don’t even think it was really him (he always wears a mask). From the MJQ promoter via myspace:

Many apologies go to all of you who came out to the MF DOOM show last night at MJQ and paid $30 of your hard earned money only to watch him lip sinc for 20 minutes at 1:30 in the morning. This was by far one of the single worst experiences I’ve had as a club promoter and I sincerely apologize if you walked away feeling cheated. To make matters even worse MF DOOMS appointed doorman took off with all the money from the door after the show! As soon as we realized the money was stolen we decided to help ourselves to all of MF DOOMS merchandise which included a bunch of T shirts and posters. So, in an effort to make it up to everyone who walked away feeling cheated, we’re giving away all the merchandise for free so come and get it while supplies last!! And if that’s not enough, feel free to let MF DOOM aka Daniel Dumile know how you really feel by calling him at his home in Kennesaw Georgia.

Ruby Isle have decided to start covering whatever song is #1 on the blog mp3 aggregator Elbows each week and releasing it for free. This is such a cool idea. Here’s their cover of Beach House‘s “Gila” (you can listen to the original here):

So, Xiu Xiu and Fucked Up have filed a lawsuit against RJ Reynolds Tobacco for using their names, plus tons of other indie groups, in a Camel cigarettes add in Rolling Stone magazine without their permission. Add this douchiness to running Bob Dylan cover stories every three months and having no clue what the best music of 2007 was, and Rolling Stone may be more out of touch than MTV.

Lou Reed will be the keynote speaker at SXSW.

Beck‘s Odelay is getting the “Deluxe Treatment” and will be available with lots of extra goodies at the end of next month.

The Long Blondes have a new album out in April.

The Smashing Pumpkins are digitally releasing an acoustic EP called American Gothic on January 2nd.
