Atlanta Hottnesses: Die Slaughterhaus, Ghost Abortions, The Spooks, The Kiwis, Deerhunter, and Adam Bruneau

Die Slaughterhaus, the notorious Atlanta record company at the center of our garage-punk scene, seems to be diving deeper into the world of video. The 5 minute short film above called Ghost Abortions just showed up on youtube, and as one would expect, it is as offensive as the musical acts you would associate with the label. What interested me most about it is that The Kiwis contributed their music for the soundtrack. The Kiwis, aka The Kiwis of the South Pacific, are a band that I’ve been interested in for a long time because everything I’ve heard from them sounds great, but I’ve never actually had my schedule work out to see them live. Here is a sample:

In addition to the music on the film, Kiwi‘s Adam Bruneau also did the animation. I finally put two and two together and realized he was the one who did those neat videos for Deerhunter‘s Microcastle last year. He has a nice collection on Vimeo you should check out.

Die Slaughterhouse recently released an LP for The Spooks, who are a mysterious Atlanta supergroup affiliated with the Black Lips, Deerhunter and The Kiwis. I’m not sure if Adam Bruneau is actually in this band or not, but he made the video for their song “Steal You Soul”. If you bought the LP like i did, you know it came with a pair of 3D glasses to view the sweet cover art that he designed. To watch this video properly, you need to put on those 3D glasses and toggle up full-screen mode because it is awesome:

Here is The Kiwi‘s “Mexico” done with lite brite animation by Andrew Nicholson. (also awesome, and more videos after the jump):
