Videos: Living Rooms, Blastoids @ I Can Fly 2 (6/28/09)
After leaving Corndogorama Sunday night a little early, I headed over to the new I Can Fly house. The DIY venue used to be located in my old neighborhood of Home Park, but when I moved to Reynoldstown, it moved over here too. This was my first time at the new one, and was very impressed with the crowd they drew for a Sunday night party with no beer. The venue space inside was pretty small, so it was really too packed out for me to go in and hear The Sunglasses or Siddhartha, but both sounded great from outside. I then went in up front to catch Blastoids and Living Rooms and both of them were incredible. The Blastoids‘ drummer is something else. I picked up their album for sale, which I can’t even determine what it is called, but it is really, really good. This was my first time catching Living Rooms and I’m definitely now a fan. I shot a video of each, but it was so dark in there there is very little to see, so they serve more as an audio sampling.

Friday Night In The A: WRAS Fest, I Can Fly House Returns!
I was just complaining the other day that Atlanta was currently lacking in house shows as most of the recent great venues weren’t doing parties anymore, but it seems the kids that brought us so many legendary shows at I Can Fly are back at it again. Much like myself, they have made the move from Home Park to Reynoldstown, and have a show this evening with the following bands:
Hawks
Thy Mighty Contract
Thank God
New Brutalism
Support your local DIYs! 156 Brantley St.
Also, the greatest college radio station in the world, Georgia State’s WRAS 88.5 FM is having their annual music fest at Eyedrum tonight. As always, their line-up is quite elusive, and even right now on the day of the show, I have no idea who exactly will be there. I have seen 3 different fliers each with a completely different listing, so here is a collection of potential artists playing tonight:
Lee Harvey Oswald
Vera Fang
The Liverhearts
Hawks
Fringe Factory DJs
Edit: Growing was removed from this show.
Maybe you can find out more here:

DIY Nation: I Can Fly House
As the Web 2.0 and D.I.Y. culture in America continues to grow and flourish, this new series will take a look at certain parts of this phenomenon. House parties are a foundation to any good music scene and Atlanta has plenty of houses hosting such events. Last Wednesday night we went to one in our own neighborhood of Home Park. The show was completely free and they were relying on donations from the crowd to give the bands some money. Attendees drinking either brought beer or went down to the local bar to buy beers between sets like we did. There was a rather large crowd of folks for a Wednesday night show that seemed to be the perfect size for this venue. I discovered two really cool bands. Sorry No Ferrari is a local band that does instrumental post-rock sort of jams:
Sorry No Ferrari : Native American Idiot
Sorry No Ferrari : HRSBRG Demo
The other band that I caught was Charlottesville, Virginia’s Worn In Red. They were more on the metal/punk spectrum but had some great jams:
Worn In Red : Moments Without
You can check out future events at I Can Fly House’s Myspace page.
