Word On The Street
Colin Mee, guitarist for Deerhunter, has parted ways with the band. Hear what he has to say about it here. The drama continues for these guys, but hopefully everyone involved continues making great music and the hype is justified.
Speaking of hype, Creative Loafing did a story on The Coathangers and the blowing up of said band. I’m reserving any real judgement about this band until I listen to the album and see them today at Criminal Records, but listening to their songs makes me laugh, and that’s cool.
ISP Space is closing down. I have to say that this is a bummer to me because I really enjoyed the shows I saw there.
Here’s some Black Lips news from their myspacing:
The Black Lips’ newest opus, Good Bad Not Evil which you can stream in its entirety onMySpace this week, comes out September 11. For the momentous occasion, Black Lips are doing a special show at MJQ in Atlanta. How do you get into the show? Well, it’s easy. Starting Tuesday, September 4, Good Bad Not Evil will be available for pre-order at ye olde Criminal Records. If you truck down early to pre-order the record, you not only get a spiff-tastic DVD of Black Lips Live in Israel which you can’t get your paws on anywhere else, but you get the secret handshake invite to the show on September 11. Assuming the show doesn’t sell out before release date, there will be CDs available as your ticket in at MJQ on the day of the show, but why would you risk it? Oh, and you only get the DVD if you pre-order or buy at Criminal on release date. So if you’ve got nothing to do on Tuesday during your lunch break besides sneak a couple of pints, head down to Criminal and pre-order that gem and get ready for the show.
Here’s a video @ Radio Har-Hatzofim, JERUSALEM ISRAEL:
Okkervil River will be at The 40 watt in Athens, Ga October 3rd.

Burn To Shine, a cool film series where they have a bunch of bands from a city play a song in a house about to get demolished, is about to do one in Atlanta featuring Mastodon, Deerunter, Black Lips, Snowden, The Selmanaires, The Coathangers, and Shannon Wright.
The internets are exploding with rumours that My Bloody Valentine will be reuniting and playing Coachella next year. Let the 2008 festival line-up speculation madness begin!
You can stream the great new Minus The Bear album here.
Remember that Midlake is at The Earl tonight. Don’t miss it:

A Drunken Blitz Saturday Night (Featuring Nophest and Untied States)
So, here’s what I remember…
At the trap. Newcastle. it begins. Depart with the drizzle. Cryptograms blasts. Cabbage town. Teahouse. 11:11. Bud light kegs. Fill up cups. Beautiful day to chill outside. Lecture on music software. Show and tell. Projector. sample bank. beer. move the mouse. coding the tunes. laptop action. beer. Night falls. where’s the bathroom? beer. more computer jams, now I want a cigarrette. beer. Lots of jars with lots of organic stuff. Suddenly, Cyborg Transvestite. Drum machines. yelling. black dress. big metal plate. banging. dancing, yelling, banging, beats, evil beats, it just died. no, now its back. Cyborg Punk will never die. beer. porching. bum cigarettes. way too harsh a cigarrette. head feels funny. need more beer. beer. kids rapping about suicide bombers. doing interviews with crowd while performing. beer. back to the spaceship. East Atlanta is blurry. maybe that’s me. pizza. pbr. aw yeah. must get to gas station before midnight. millerlite case-ish. ISP Space. chillin. Biggie C. moorish posse. beer. really foggy now. i’m guessing beer. Untied States time. wait, who is that chick on the drums? new line-up? woah. beer. The States bring the noise. hells yaher. beer. I think i’m blind in one eye. maybe both. time to take it back to the park. beer. smoke. too drunk to stay awake. goodnight.

A Weekend In The A (featuring Sebadoh, Snowden, From Exile, Tenth To The Moon, Lid Emba)
Last weekend I tried to hit up as many different shows as possible. First, i went and checked out the Snowden and Selmanaires show at Rob’s House (Records). Rob’s House was just some dude’s house in East Atlanta. They had a keg for people to drink and a tiny basement where the bands played to a tightly packed crowd of 30-50. The show time said 3pm, but i got there at 5pm and was still able to catch the end of The Selmanaires set. Snowden played next and rocked the basement out. I really like the idea of taking a typical keg party, adding some great bands and doing it early in the afternoon. Good stuff.
After hitting some bars up and taking a smoke break at my house to listen to an album or two, i headed to the Earl to catch the Jupiter Watts show. i stayed for an hour and pretty sure i didn’t see the Jupiter Watts but was way too drunk at this point to concentrate on doing a good review, so I’ll have to come and see them again. I made it back to my neighborhood and hung out with the boys in From Exile late night as they did a mini-acoustic set:
In May, From Exile is going on tour on the east coast and Ohmpark will be taking it on the road with them chronicling this journey. We will have more details on that as soon as the tour is completely booked, but it is going to be a fiasco and I hope our non-ATL readers will come check them out. They just purchased an old prisoner transport van for the trip:
On Sunday i finally got a chance to check out the ISP Space. I have to say that i like it. It is very small, but the concept and the vibe are great. I had no idea who any of the bands playing were before i went, but i was very impressed with two of them. Lid Emba is Sean Moore playing on drum machines, a drum set, and a synth. Really cool ambient, noise, experimental electronic stuff. He closed with a really interesting mash-up/reinterpretation of Black Sabbath‘s War Pigs, and despite being one of the most over-covered songs of all time, it was still stunning. I got a copy of his debut album, Reason Isn’t Radar, and after an initial listen, I really like it.
Next up was Tenth To The Moon. This three piece consisted of two older gentleman on bass and keys, and some crazy kid fronting the band switching around from vocals, to drums, to drum machines. I guess on a broad scale I would call it experimental noise-dance. At one point the vocalist pulls out a huge metal shield that is plugged into the sound system that he beats to death with his drum sticks. Really good music and a very entertaining live show that you should check out.
I finally made my way over to Sebadoh at the Variety Playhouse just in time for Lou and the boys to come on. I’m not very familiar with Sebadoh, but they were really good. An enjoyable relic of the ’90s. I have to say I enjoyed seeing Lou Barlow solo or Dinosaur Jr much more, but it was cool to see another manifestation.
