[Stream] Little Tybee: “Passion Seekers”
In April, Little Tybee are releasing their second full-length, Humorous to Bees. But since I managed to get my hands on an advanced copy, I can already go ahead and tell you that it will be one of the best records to come out of Atlanta this year. The song-writing is focused, their technical prowess is flawless, and the sound is timeless yet distinct. Atlanta’s orchestral-pop scene is kind of ridiculous right now, and this album is another reason why. They have some interesting plans on how they will release the record, which I’ll have more details on soon, but in the meantime, Little Tybee are playing with Adron tonight (Thursday, Jan 27) at The Earl, so here’s a cut from Humorous to Bees that includes an Adron guest spot:

An Atlanta Mp3 Trilogy: Harken The Hands Askew, Little Tybee, Adam Bruneau

A meticulous five years in the making, Thou is the beautiful new record from Harken The Hands Askew, the solo banner for O’ Brother guitarist Aaron Womack. It is very atmospheric, droney sort of experimental stuff, but with a whole lot more traditional song structure than one would expect from that description. It strikes an almost perfect balance between its very basic lo-fi pop foundation and its more quirky and risky elements. I’m really digging this more and more, so check it out:

As of late, I have been hearing a lot of noise about Atlanta newcomers Little Tybee. I have yet to catch them live, but I did pick up a copy of their fresh new record, Building A Bomb, and after a couple of listens I can see why they are impressing so many people. The nearly 50 minute record drags at places and this outfit would greatly benefit from sharpening things on the songwriting side of the equation, but even at its weakest moments this music is still rather enjoyable. Little Tybee will have a bright future ahead of it if they can build upon the vast potential displayed on this newest release:

Local musician and all-around artistic powerhouse Adam Bruneau often drops some nice gems on his blog and his newest installment featured a lovely cover of a Pixies song guest starring one David McClung on guitar. I thought it would round out this trilogy nicely, so enjoy:
