[Stream] Miles From Pangaea: “Kantian Sublime”
Proggy instrumentalists Miles For Pangaea release their newest record, In/Pulse, this Friday night at The Music Room. The latest single from the record, “Kantian Sublime,” is jammy and funky, and if that’s your sort of thing, you’ll want give it a listen. There’s nothing new or unusual about Miles From Pangaea‘s sound, but it’s pretty tasteful for such self-indulgent music.

Live Show: 13 Day Mission, Beatrix Kiddo, Miles From Pangea, The Jungle (8/23/2008)
I checked out the The Hijacking Music Collective audio-visual extravaganza the weekend before last at WonderRoot before going to catch another show, and it was a very cool scene. I only stayed long enough to finally catch 13 Day Mission for the first time and they jammed out ridiculously. If you’re into psychedelic music, this local clan is not to be missed.
First some 13 Day Mission video:
Then, here are some large mp3s from the night:

I’m sure plenty of other goodies from the night will emerge, so keep up with all of these kids at their studio’s blog, The O Zone Lair.

Ohmpark’s Guide To Nophest 4&20
The weekend is almost here and I am very excited. Nophest announced a third stage of bands for Sunday April 20th at The Doogallery. For details on that and the full schedule, go to the Nophest website. I’m going to break down the acts that stand out to me and help you discover some new bands from the massive line-up. Click on the band name to listen to some tracks on their myspace or website:
Friday:
7:45pm Lovesick Scientist: A project of Justin Sias (Elevado) that is produced by Brian Slusher (Slushco). With those two top tier ATL musicians involved, it has to be good.
8:30pm R_Garcia: I’ve just sort of been introduced to Randy Garcia through Nophest, but everything I sees points to him being a pretty badass musician and dude, so I’m ready to catch this one.
9:15pm Missile Command: A band featuring members of Elevado. We got a sneak preview performance of these guys at our one year anniversary party and they rocked out hard so I’ve been excited to catch the Missile Command again. Here’s some tracks to jam:

Underground Hottlanta: The Hijacking Music Collective
One of the many things I love about the Atlanta music scene is the sense of community that is very prevalent between artists, and everyone else associated with it. It is common around here for bands who share a vision to come together and help each other promote themselves and record and things like that. Industrial Strength Promotions is great example of this.
Recently I became aware of one such conglomerate called “Hijacking Music”. It consists of 3 new and talented bands including 13 Day Mission (ATL), Beatrix Kiddo (Athens), and Miles From Pangea (Marietta). All three are instrumental groups that I would consider in the greater realm of post-rock and everything I’ve heard from them shows a ton of promise and potential. They have a recording studio they use called the “O Zone Lair” and they even have a blog: O Team Press. Give them a listen:
13 Day Mission : Eat All Speaking Canaries
13 Day Mission : El Spectaculare
Beatrix Kiddo : Lena
Beatrix Kiddo : Dominique Dawes
Miles From Pangea : Blackwater Pond
Miles From Pangea : Crimson Sky
In terms of official releases, so far there is only 13 Day Mission‘s EP from last year, Ex Incendia Libertas, which I have been jamming out constantly over the last couple weeks, and it is available for free at their myspace. I highly recommend you go pick that up. Also, this Friday night, you can catch all three bands at 11:11 Teahouse with me for what looks to be a pretty awesome night of music and art:
