SXSW 2008 Day 4/Wrap-Up

Ok, I promise this is our last SXSW post. Most Likely. Anyways, the last day of the fest started with us sleeping in a bit later than normal, but we made it in time to catch Plants And Animals at an Urban Outfitters next to UT campus. They rocked it out:

After a long hike back to the main strip, Biggie C and I split up. He went to catch Dead Confederate, who ended up using almost all of their set doing cover of Sonic Youth‘s “Diamond Sea”. I went and caught Sea Wolf:

Ohmpark’s Top 50 Best Albums Of 2007

2007 was an incredible year of music and there were so many albums I really liked that didn’t make this list. I noticed that most of the lists I pay attention to were very similar to one another this year as opposed to last year. Also, I’ve found myself in more of a disagreeance with those lists than last year. If there is any theme to be taken out of this list, I think it’s that I feel like too many great albums were underrated by the blogosphere elites, and that they were way in love with some albums I think are overrated. This list represents my personal assertions more so than the rest of the Ohmpark crew, but I worked hard to get every one’s opinions and influences in this thing. Feel free to comment on how much you hate or love it. I feel like every album on this is an essential one from last year, so go listen to some new music:

What The Hell Am I Listening To?!?

Today’s theme, suggested albums from the readers (keep suggesting):

Sea Wolf

Thanks to TJ (check his blog) for pointing out Sea Wolf‘s Leaves In The River. I might have overlooked this release due to all the artists these days with “wolf” in their name confusing me. This band, fronted by Irving‘s Alex Church, does indie-pop better than most that remind me a little of Earlimart, Bright Eyes, and maybe even Arcade Fire at times. If you want a nice, low-key album that just sounds beautiful from front to back, this is for you:

Baroness

Ichuda hit me off with this metal outfit from Savannah, Ga’s newest release, Red Album. It’s great to see a good band emerge from a music scene that is pretty lacking at best. Baroness on this album sort of sound like a more subdued Mastodon to me. I’ve been listening to it like crazy lately, and so should you:
