Torrent of the Day: My Morning Jacket – Bonnaroo 2008

One of the biggest surprises of Bonnaroo for me was My Morning Jacket. I have enjoyed their last two albums “Z” and “Evil Urges”. However, I certainly wasn’t aware of what a staggering live show these guys can put on. With the help of saxophonist Jeff Coffin, the Nashville Horns, and Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, My Morning Jacket put on a nearly four hour long party. The band played a majority of the songs from their last two albums and a couple songs from their older albums. They also spiced things up a bit with a diverse sprinkling of covers from Sly & the Family Stone, Funkadelic, Erykah Badu, Kool and the Gang, Bobby Womack & Peace, and Velvet Underground. They closed out their late night set covering Mötley Crüe’s “Home Sweet Home” with comedian Zach Galifianakis dressed as little orphan Annie. Enjoy.

Bands I Heart: 65daysofstatic

65daysofstatic is a really great band that doesn’t get enough hype on the blogosphere, including here. Their full-length from last year was our #30 best album of 2007 and I had only mentioned them once before that, so here’s some 65daysofstatic stuff. This UK outfit is broadly a post-rock band, but they break down more genre walls then most any band you can paint with that brush. They just dropped a new video on youtube earlier this week in support of their new EP/Single, The Distant and Mechanized Glow of Eastern European Dance Parties:

“Dance Parties (Distant)”:

So they seemed to have gone post-dance-rock with this EP and these guys have the ability to conquer just about any sort of feel they want. Here’s another track from it:

Torrent Of The Day: Dark Meat (4/27/2008)

I finally got around to listening to Athens, Ga’s Dark Meat. Very interesting stuff. As I listen to Universal Indians, I find myself really loving the extremely weird stuff, but not so into their particular brand of southern rock during the more accessible parts. But despite my own subjective hang-ups with them, they are certainly worth looking into.

Torrent Of The Day: At The Drive In (1/18/2001 12″ vinyl bootleg)

This is pretty cool:

At The Drive In 2001-01-18 Live In Tokyo Japan, January 18 2001 (16-bit) (FLAC)

At The Drive In – Live In Tokyo Japan, January 18 2001 (Lost Horse Records, catalog #LH-2010, price 2,500 Yen) bootleg vinyl 12″ lp (butterscotch/cream swirl pattern) >Technics SL-B350 turntable (refurbished but not modified)>Edirol R-09 (via analog line in)>16 bit stereo WAV>CEP2 (fades, trims, remove most pops/clicks,join/merge side A&B,volume adjustments)>CDWAVE (track splits on sector boundaries)>FLAC via Traders Little Helper (level 8)>bit torrent

Record was cleaned before transfer but some low level vinyl noise is still audible. The recording is taken from the circulating Japanese pro shot video (Shibuya ON AIR EAST), and was just a tad hot at the start of Arcarsenal, but the levels were quickly adjusted by the filming crew. Any edits made by the manufacturer of this lp were left intact.

The album and jacket are very nicely presented, with awesome artwork on the front cover, and as stated above, the vinyl is a butterscotch and cream swirl pattern.

Tracklist (as listed on back of album jacket).

Side A:
1.Arcarsenal
2.Pattern Against User
3.Invalid Litter Dept.
4.Cosmonaut

Side B:
