[Mp3] Jungol: “Two People”
As the Internet age of music continues grinding down the barriers to entry, artists attempting to break in are forced to find ways to stand out from the billion or so other artists vying for the same attention. Because of this, things like subtlety and nuance are left by the wayside in favour of more straightforward and broadly-appealing approaches. Increasingly ADD listeners trying to rip through as much music as possible will often overlook a record that doesn’t hit them right away. Thus, the “grower” record is becoming an endangered species. But it’s not dead just yet, as evidenced by the newest release from Atlanta’s Jungol.
Over The Sun And Under The Radar is the first full-length under the Jungol banner, but it’s far from a debut for the Yoder Brothers and Co. After contracting their former band name, they had set out on new course with last year’s Places EP, and the promise of that musical shift has come into fruition with OTSAUTR. They have found a way to distill all of their knowledge, built upon years and years of sonic experimentation, into sharply focused pop with an uncompromising quantity of artistic depth. With so much disposable junk all the rage these days, it’s always refreshing to spend time with a record that rewards a patient listener.

That first paragraph is spot on in describing a problem with music in the Internet Age. I’m just as guilty as anyone and miss “discovering” how great an album is on its 7th, 8th or 9th rotation.
Nice track from Jungol, too.
