[Mp3] Living Rooms: “Light Bright”
There are quite a few promising local records yet to drop this year, and one I’m very much looking forward to is the new Living Rooms. Some people may bemoan their obvious Animal Collective influence, but AnCo created an entirely new genre, and there is plenty of territory within this aesthetic that has yet to be explored. With so many bands these days plundering the same old riffs and ideas worn thin half a century ago, I think it’s hard to fault an artist for using the most important and forward-looking band of the last decade as a starting point. The bottom line is that I danced my ass off last time I saw them live, and that is not a very common occurrence for me. So be sure to hit up their free show at 529 Monday night. And here’s a track I found floating around cyberspace:

Touche, this is a good point. But then you still have to question are they using as Animal Collective as a musical reference because A.C is popular RIGHT NOW? Or would they have been trying to emulate Animal Collective back when AC was releasing records like Sung Tongs and no one knew about them?
Honestly AC has been on the cusp of something new and unique since Grass was released, but all the trend humping bands, including Living Rooms, came out once Girls and Merriweather was released.
