Ok, to start off, I have two corrections to make. First, in the post “Atlanta Album Preview: Nomen Novum” I had listed what I believed to be a possible tracklisting to Nomen Novum’s upcoming debut album, November, but I in fact gave you the possible tracklist Nomen Novum’s second album comprised of songs they are performing live already. The tracklist for November looks like this:
intro / new coke
permanent makeup
I collect things/pow-pow
little witches
don’t look up
my face her body
parallel eyes
that’s a moray
precious moments
hand-me-downs
Expect it to be available in the month of which it is named, and another Nomen Novum to follow.
The other correction is from my last “What The Hell Am i Listening to?!?” post. I claimed Sorry No Ferrari’s EP The Get Down Syndrome had been released “recently”, when in actuality it had been released back in 2006. I had incorrectly thought that it was the new record they are currently finishing up, but obviously it is not.
So, in both cases, there is more great music coming than I expected.

Bonnaroo’s “Big Announcement” this week was that Widespread Panic is replacing The Allman Brothers and doing their 43rd headlining spot at the ‘roo. They also added Les Claypool, Charli 2na, Super Drag, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Adele, Grand Ole Party, and The Postelles. Other than WSP, those are some decent additions, but I’m way more excited about the acts they added to the Cafe/nightclub, including Dead Confederate, Colour Revolt, De Novo Dahl, Phonograph, Bear In Heaven, Howlin Rain, and Royal Bangs, all of which are acts that I am interested in checking out. I’ll be doing a piece on all the lesser know ‘roo acts very soon.
Pecanne Log had the extened trailer to We Fun up, so check it:
Pitchfork Fest added Spoon, The Dodos, and Les Savy Fav. That is turning out to rather sweet line-up.
You can download a reversed version of the new Gnarls Barkley album for free here.
The RIAA spent $2.8 million dollars lobbying the government in 2007. Honestly, I would have expected that to be much higher.
The Clermont Lounge is up for sale.

I’m about to head to Myrtle Beach for the night to catch The Mars Volta. Tickets for that show are still available so I would recommend quiting your day job and catching it. If you can’t do that, the 13 Day Mission, Beatrix Kiddo, Miles From Pangea show 11:11 teahouse is going to be the hottness. If you are completely broke, here’s a free show:
Lollapalooza is announcing its line-up on Monday, but the Chicago Sun-Times has leaked a bunch of it. The following bands have been confirmed:
Radiohead
Nine Inch Nails
Rage Against The Machine
Wilco
Grizzly Bear
Battles
The Raconteurs
Kanye West
Gnarls Barkley
The Black Keys
Broken Social Scene
G. Love And The Special Sauce
Blues Traveler
Mates Of State
Bloc Party
Cat Power
Stephen Malkmus
Girl Talk
Kid Sister
Office
The Cool Kids
The Go! Team
Jamie Lidell
That is serious line-up. This is going to be a big event. I think I’m gonna have to hit this one up. You may have noticed Grizzly Bear up there, and word on the street is that they are opening for some of Radiohead’s dates. In other Chicago festival news, Pitchfork Fest has added some acts and the line-up is looking much better. As it stands:
Friday, July 18:
Pitchfork Music Festival and All Tomorrow’s Parties
present “Don’t Look Back” Public Enemy performing
It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
* Mission of Burma performing Vs. *
+ one more to be announced
Saturday, July 19:
Animal Collective * Jarvis Cocker * !!! Vampire Weekend Dizzee Rascal Fleet Foxes No Age * Jay Reatard * * King Khan & His Shrines * Atlas Sound * The Ruby Suns * * A Hawk and a Hacksaw * * Occidental Brothers Dance Band International *
+ many more!
Sunday, July 20:
* Dinosaur Jr. * Spiritualized M. Ward * Ghostface and Raekwon * * The Apples in Stereo * Boris * Dirty Projectors * * Cut Copy * Extra Golden El Guincho * Fuck Buttons *
+ many more!
Keep in mind the ticket price is $65 for a weekend pass, which is a great bargain compared to the skyrocketing festival ticket prices from everyone else. Another festival announcement made some noise this week too: Baltimore’s Virgin Mobile Fest. They announced their headliners:
Foo Fighters
Jack Johnson
Kanye West
Nine Inch Nails
Stone Temple Pilots
There’s two things to note here. 1. The Stone Temple Pilots are indeed back and on the reunion bandwagon. They have announced that they have exactly 65 North American days scheduled right now. Talk about cashing in. Oh yeah, Scott Weiland is in a tiff with his other band, Velvet Revolver. 2. Why the hell is Jack Johnson headlining all these festivals? I mean seriously, this douche must be stopped. Jack Johnson is like a Dave Matthews who can’t play more than three chords. The dude sucks.
Atlanta’s Nophest 4 & 20 festival going down in a couple weeks has added more to its line-up and schedule and you can check it out at their website. Ohmpark is sponsoring the event, so expect epicness.
I had been rumour-mongering this forever, but Pitchfork has confirmed that Bradford Cox (Deerhunter/Atlas Sound) worked on The Wild Things soundtrack with Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs). They have also reported that Deerhunter is recording their new album, Microcastle, as a 4-piece, and Colin Mee is officially no longer part of the band.
R.E.M., Modest Mouse, The National tickets go on sale tomorrow.
Al Green has a new album coming out that was produced by ?uestlove (The Roots) and will be at Chastain Park Amphitheater on July 16th.
STS9 and Umphrey’s McGee are going on tour together and will finish their journey here in Atlanta at The Masquerade Music Park on August 1st and 2nd.
Creative Loafing has a great piece of journalism this week as they document how ATLien Jessica Juggz shoots flames from her vagina. Yep, really. And you can catch her band Mourdella at The Earl tomorrow night.
CL also have a piece on Atlanta’s Zoroaster.
Myspace says it wants some of that Internet money, buddy.
Neil Young has a new album coming soon.

The Nomen Novum (members of Moorish Idols) debut release, the Mantis Man 7″ will be available at their show tomorrow night at The Drunken Unicorn.

Be Your Own Pet will be at the Variety Playhouse May 23rd. Universal cut three songs from their new album, Get Akward, because they were too violent. This is the same label that has released albums from Eminem, 50 Cent, Marilyn Manson, and Nine inch Nails. Obviously, Jemina Pearl could kick all of their asses. Check their new vid:

Last weekend I caught Nomem Novum (newest project from Moorish Idols) at ParkGrounds and it was pretty cool. Here’s a few pics and a vid:
Baroness will be at The Masquerade on March 20th. Even Pitchfork don’t know that.
Stone Temple Pilots are playing Wisconsin’s Rock Fest.
The new Gnarls Barkley album, The Odd Couple, comes out April 8th.
Chris Rock, one of my favourite comedians, has been added to the Bonnaroo line-up and will be performing on the main stage. Awesome. How about a music video:
Find out why My Bloody Valentine didn’t do Coachella here, and “Don’t worry–they’ll come to America.”
So all the wookies and hippies pissed off about Metallica at Bonnaroo are rallying around the newest festival to emerge in this golden ago of American festivals. Behold Rothbury Fest:
Dave Mathews, Band Widespread Panic, John Mayer, 311, Phil Lesh And Friends, Primus, Thievery Corporation, Snoop Dogg, Modest Mouse, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Gov’t Mule, STS9, Colbie Caillat, Slightly Stoopid, The Black Keys, Keller Williams And the WMD’s, Yonder Mountain String Band featuring John Fishman, Gogol Bordello, Citizen Cope, The Disco Biscuits, Medeski Martin And Wood, Ray Lamontagne, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi Soul Stew Revival, Drive-By Truckers, Of Montreal, Etown Radio Show, The Dresden Dolls, Gomez ,Brett Dennen, Taj Mahal, Mike Gordon, Zappa Plays Zappa, Crystal Method DJ Set, JJ Grey And Mofro, The Greyboy All-Stars, The Secret Machines, Railroad Earth, Beth Orton ,Jakob Dylan and The Gold Mountain Rebels, A3, Bettye Lavette, Emmitt Nershi Band, Lotus, EOTO, Panjea with Michael Kang, Yard Dogs Road Show, State Radio, The Beautiful Girls, Sage Francis, Tea Leaf Green, Bassnectar, Pnuma Trio, Diplo, Flosstradamus, The Juan Maclean, The Dynamites featuring Charles Walker, DJ Rekha, Dead Confederate, Motion Potion, DJ Rootz, Sojorn Busdriver
So if you’re one of those folks that wish it were 2003 and every hippy festival had the exact same line-up every year, you’ll be ecstatic about this one. It goes down July 3rd-6th in Rothbury, Michigan. Rothbury Fest website.
A festival that I’d probably be slightly more interested in checking out is the New England Metal Fest. They got a line-up too:
The fest will be merging with Gigantour for one-night, as the Friday night portion of the show will feature Megadeth, In Flames, Children of Bodom, Job For A Cowboy and High on Fire, so the first night is officially Gigantour night. Saturday’s lineup will be headlined by Dimmu Borgir, Shadows Fall and Behemoth. Sunday will feature Ministry, Meshuggah and Nevermore. And that’s just the friggen headliners. Take a look at the rest of the bands expected to play on the show:
The Dillinger Escape Plan, Overkill, A Life Once Lost, God Forbid, Disfear, Hate Eternal, Municipal Waste, Shai Halud, Soilent Green, Skeletonwitch, The Acacia Strain, Vital Remains, After the Burial, Animosity, As Blood Runs Black, Belay My Last, Born of Osiris, Briandrill, Classic Struggle, Cockpunch!, Cold World, Dead to Fall, Demiricous, Eluveitie, Elysia, Embrace the End, Emmure, The End, Ensiferum, First Blood, From a Second Story Window, Full Blown Chaos, The Ghost Inside, Hemlock, Impending Doom, Keep Of Kalessin, Kid Deposit Triumph, Ligeia, Mensrea, Monstrosity, On Broken Wings, Recon, Red I Flight, Rhinoceros, Shipwreck a.d., Since the Blood, Sleeping Giant, Sons of Azrael, Stick to Your Guns, Stray from the Path, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganze, Trap Them, Turisas, Tyr, Unexpect, Unholy, Vanna, Veil of Maya, Waking the Cadaver, Winds of Plague, Withered, and Xtyrantx.
Pretty exciting! The event will take place from April 25 to 27 at the Palladium in Worcester, MA.
