Live Videos: Nomen Novum (9/18/2008) Brooklyn, NY
Since disbanding the 3 piece rock-band line-up of Moorish Idols, David Norbery’s Nomen Novum has been comprised of completely different musicians each time I have caught them live. For our show at WonderRoot during the summer, Norbery performed solo playing drums and singing to preprogrammed guitars and loops. The one-man-band approach was intriguing, getting to watch a battle against the constraints of having to play every part. The recent micro-tour incarnation we caught in the basement of a shitty bar in Brooklyn was a further exploration of a loop-based Nomen Novum. This time fellow Moorish Idols alumni Mark Godfrey lended support on electronic instrumentation, and Norbery continued to rely more heavily upon loops and drums than guitars.
